Carlsbad, NM - Donald "Don" John Barnett, 83, passed away on June 17, 2026.

Born in Roswell, New Mexico, on July 28, 1942, Don spent many years in Amargosa Valley, Nevada, where he became a respected member of the community. He built a distinguished career as a Nuclear Waste Engineer and proudly served as a Nye County Commissioner. Gifted with a remarkable mechanical mind, Don could fix just about anything. He will be remembered for his quick wit, love of camping, fishing, hunting, and the outdoors, and above all, his unwavering devotion to his family and friends.

Don shared nearly 53 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Nancy Barnett. He is also survived by his son, Kenneth Barnett (Melissa); grandsons, Bret Barnett and Mason Barnett (Angelica); two great-grandchildren; his sisters, Joan Pruitt, Mary Margaret Barnett, and Suzanne Cox; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

Don's integrity, generosity, humor, and quiet strength left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
