GERALD J. SCHUH

1931 - 2026

Gerald J. Schuh, 94 years old, was born in downtown Chicago in 1931 at Passavant Hospital. Grammar years were spent in Tulsa, OK. He attended high school in Kansas City, MO. He graduated from the University of Missouri, Columbia, MO, with a B.S. in Agriculture in 1957 after serving in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955.

Gerald worked for four years for the Packet Publishing Co., writing news articles covering the fruit, vegetable and poultry industry, and traveling throughout four southern states.

He came to Las Vegas in 1961 to accept a position as horticulturist at University of Nevada, Extension Service serving Clark County and Pahrump.

He later worked for the Southwestern Radiological Health Laboratory, stationed at Mercury Test Site, Bioenvironmental Research Farm.

In 1970 he established Professional Lawn & Garden Service, a contracted landscape maintenance ?rm, providing services to commercial and residential accounts in Las Vegas.

The ?rst sod farm in Southern Nevada was established in Pahrump by 1970 to service Las Vegas. Nevada Hybrid Turf, Inc. was owned by Jerry Schuh and Jerry McMullin, another agriculture graduate from Missouri.

Another business started by Mr. Schuh was Great Western Buckle. The business brought its yearly decorated buckles for ten years, supplying the Pahrump Harvest Festival Fair and Pro Rodeo committee. These buckles can be seen at the Pahrump Museum.

Gerald Schuh is survived by his wife, Janet Schuh; his siblings, James D Schuh and Loretta M Brown; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Tom Schuh.

A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Pahrump from 10 am to 11 am on Saturday, January 24, 2026.

His burial will be held at the VA Cemetery in Boulder City, NV on Monday, January 26, 2026 at 10:40 am. The address is 1900 Veterans Memorial Dr., Boulder City, NV 89005.
