MSGT. (Ret) LAWRENCE S. BAI

Born 10/24/1948, MSGT (RET) Lawrence S. Bai passed away after his courageous battle with cancer on May 19, 2025, in the care of Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas. Born to Eli and Evelyne Bai in the Bronx, New York, Larry was raised in Flushing Meadows, Long Island and Norwalk, Connecticut. He met and married the special love of his life, Susan D. Shohet, on February 14, 1971. After completing High School, Larry enlisted in the United States Air Force on January 13, 1967. He served his country as a Security Policeman, Chapel Manager, Correction Officer, and Administrative Executive Officer. Larry retired on November 30, 1988 from active duty. His service took him to California, Mississippi, Colorado, Southeast Asia, Japan, as well as numerous temporary duty locations. His many awards and decorations include receipt of the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal with five campaign stars. He was selected as the Senior Non Commissioned Officer of the Quarter from Los Angeles Air Force Base in 1987. He was also a Life Member of the Air Force Association.
Upon retirement, Larry went into the retail field as a partner in a patio furniture store, and upon moving to Pahrump in 1999, he became a partner in the Sparkletts of Nye County Franchise.
After the sale of Sparkletts, Larry became a professional volunteer. Especially devoted to the Pahrump Valley Lions Club and Lions Club International, Larry served as District Governor in California from 1993-1994. A Life Member of Lions Clubs International he was recognized with numerous awards including: receipt of 6 International Presidents Certificates of Appreciation, he was a 5-diamond Melvin Jones Fellow, presented with·Club Lion of the Year three times, District 4-L5 Secretary of the Year, District 4-L5 Region Chairman of the Year, and served as President of the Apple Valley California Lions Club when the club was District 4-LS Club of the Year.
Larry leaves behind the special love of his life, his wife of 54 years Susan, daughter Cynthia of Las Vegas and two grandchildren, the special loves of his life, Micaela and Adrian. Also niece Ariana Penachio and many dear friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Herbert and Yvette Stone Shohet, sister-in-law Barbara Greenhouse, as well as many uncles, aunts and cousins.
Larry will be laid to rest in the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Boulder City, NV on June 3, 2025 at 9:20 am. He will receive full military honors in recognition of his service to our great country.
