Lawrence Richard Nias (Larry) Obituary

Pahrump, NV - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lawrence Richard Nias, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and proud great-grandfather. Lawrence's journey through life was marked by unwavering dedication to his family and community, steadfast service, and a steadfast spirit that touched all who knew him.

Lawrence was born on August 24,1957 at Newark Beth Israel Hospital to Richard Nias of St. Kitts and Helena Sprott Nias. Lawrence graduated from Montclair High School in 1975.

A proud veteran, Lawrence served honorably in the Army National Guard from 1976 to 1990, advancing from enlisted to officer and achieving the rank of O2. Following his military service, he dedicated more than 30 years to the NJ Department of Corrections before his retirement in 2010. Retirement for Lawrence was hardly a slowing down; he and Beverly relocated to Pahrump, NV, where he continued to serve and protect his community as a security officer at the Pahrump Nugget and Intermountain. In his final years, Lawrence worked as a prisoner transport officer for Transcor, faithfully serving up until his passing.

Lawrence was predeceased by his beloved wife, Beverly Nias (nee Barnes), whom he married on December 1, 1987, and with whom he shared a lifetime of memories until her passing in January 2020. He was also predeceased by his sister, Lolita Howard, and is lovingly remembered by his surviving sister, Rhonda Nias.

Lawrence's legacy lives on through his children, Tiesha Sharee Stewart and David Lawrence Nias; his grandchildren, Nijah Renee Crawford and Tristan Andrews; and his great-granddaughter, Nayla London Hanks, and his nieces, Barbara Howard Correia and Jacinda Chislum Pearson. He will be remembered for his unwavering love, his firm guidance, and the strong foundation he provided for his family. Though he is gone, Lawrence's spirit, courage, and the values he instilled endure in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him.
