VIVIAN CHESS

August 5, 1956 - July 23, 2025

The Lord called Vivian Chess home on July 23, 2025.

Born August 5, 1956 to Ordell and Clara Fricks in Little Rock, AR, she was raised in Chicago, IL and subsequently settled in Pahrump, NV. Pastor Chess was 68 years old. She served as the head pastor at Joy Divine Church for over 20 years.

Pastor Chess was dedicated to her Lord and Savior, and to her congregation and community. She modeled and inspired all to have a passion for righteousness, and a conscience for human beings. Vivian guided her church in outreach efforts, keeping the community food pantry stocked, and providing hot meals to seniors on Fridays.

Vivian will be mourned by her four children: Nicole Chess; Okal Chess; Oscar Chess, Jr.; and Terrance Chess. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Amaya Kemp; Egypt Chess; Princeton Chess; Adriana Grays; Devon Burgess; William Henry Edward Moore, Jr.; Nicholas Torez Moore; and Passion Imoni Moore. She leaves four great-grandchildren: William Henry Edward Moore III, Jhase Donatien, Ava Nicole Donatien, and Sha'ki Ezra Moore.
