WILLIAM "BILL" J. NEWYEAR

May 8, 1947 - November 23, 2025

William "Bill" John Newyear, 78, of Pahrump, Nevada, passed away on November 23, 2025, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Born May 8, 1947, near Chicago, Illinois, to Harold and Dorothy Newyear, Bill was the oldest of four children in his family. He graduated from college, taught junior high math, and later earned two master's degrees. His sharp wit and good humor served him well in the classroom and throughout his life.

Theatre was one of Bill's lifelong passions; he performed in or directed more than 100 plays and was instrumental in reviving the theatre group in Pahrump.

Bill met his wife, Marcia, at the San Fernando Tip Toppers Tall Club in January 1987, and they were married on August 1, 1987. Bill embraced his role as father to Marcia's daughter, Channing Lang, and later as "Grandpa" to Soren and Conce.

After moving to Acton, California, Bill became the announcer for the Acton Fourth of July Parade and joined the Acton Lions Club in 1989. He went on to serve in nearly every leadership position, including District Governor in 2002, and trained Lions leaders throughout California. He coordinated the MD4 Academy Awards of Lionism for 10 years, presented at seven USA/Canada Lions Leadership Forums, and taught at multiple Lions leadership institutes. He was also a long-time member of Toastmasters.

Bill and Marcia retired to Pahrump 13 years ago, where he served as a director of the Pahrump Museum, worked with Community Partners, led a weekly community discussion group, and organized local candidate sessions during elections. His life was defined by "leadership with a sense of humor," whether in the classroom, on stage, or in service to his community.

Bill is survived by his wife, Marcia; his daughter, Channing Lang; his grandchildren, Soren and Conce; his siblings, Eileen Moore, Carl Newyear, and Dan Newyear; and many extended family members and friends.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on Sunday, December 28, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Pahrump Nugget in Pahrump, Nevada. Please bring a joke that will go into an album titled "Jokes Bill Did Not Know." Let's see if you can find one.
